God reveals Himself in nature. This is called “general revelation” and this idea is expressed well in Psalm 19:
“The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.”
(Psalm 19:1-4).
As you go about your day, do the things you see stir you to pray?
Your daily prayers can become a response of what you see all around you. You can talk to God with words of Scripture that connect to what you see, to your mind and then your heart and emotions.
If you haven’t thought about praying throughout the day based on what you see, here are some prayer prompts to get started. Try praying a few of these today.
There are other things you might notice that will stir you to prayer as well. Think creatively. For example:
As you pass by school crosswalks and intersections, you can pray that the students would follow Christ. “And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).
If you see a bakery sign or billboard, pray that people would be satisfied in Jesus, the bread of life. “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst’” (John 6:35)
“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good” (Isaiah 55:1,2).
When you drink milk, pray that people would grow spiritually. “Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation” (1 Peter 2:2,3).
What other things have you seen that cause you to pray? Leave suggestions below.
